Dear Anil Damle
Firstly, let me thank you for arranging a wonderful safari. As mentioned, we really enjoyed the experience and the organization was well planned including the lodges, game rides and most importantly the staff.
You had asked about an unique or memorable experience from the safari. One that comes to mind is the observing the emotional reaction from fellow safari members in our van.
The situation was we all were excited of seeing the rare sighting of "hunting dog pack". In following them we found ourselves close to a large herd of elephants. Amongst this large herd were also some baby elephants. Soon we got engrossed in observing these magnificent mammals that were peaceful and busy grazing. Suddenly, there was a call to action by the matriarch elephant--it was a distinct and loud trumpeting. Within a matter of few seconds the larger herd was not only trumpeting in a chorus but also rallied to a charging. Right behind a van a within a few yards was an elephant that followed this call to action and she too began trumpeting while charging towards our van. At that situation many of us in the van were taken aback and the emotions were high--needless to say a bit scary seeing this large mammal coming towards the van. However, the elephant soon turned and followed in the direction of the direction of the matriarch elephant. The reason for all this was that the elephants had noticed the hunting dogs and wanted to protect their young ones. They took action by demonstrating their strength by trumpeting and charging towards the dogs. Needless to say we were right in the midst of observing this situation and experienced the emotions of fear albeit just for a few seconds.
I will see if I have the right video clipping to accompany this situation.
Best,
Sujay Kango
